Who was Jim Crow?

Jim crow is a made up character used in a song and play to mock the blacks!- anna kate jones

He was a figure used to make fun of African Americans by making him look stupid and like nothing was wrong with a segregated and unequal America.-Suzannah

also the original jim crow was first used in song by Thomas "daddy" Rice-michael macd

jim crow is slavery in another name-dani

jim crow was a character in a song that represented segregation- joe b

Jim Crow stood for an evil unjust set of laws that promoted and enforced segragation.

Jim Crow was a mythical character in a song that made blacks look like fools -Jonathan Song

How did Jim Crow affect the lives of African Americans?

Jim Crow stood for the laws that seperated and kept ignorante African Americans. Everything from seperating schools to not alowing blacks to show there affection for one another in public

Jim Crow affected the lives of African Americans by taking away most of there rights, not supporting there schools, seperating them away from whites and many more. - anna kate jones

The jim crow laws forced many people onto jain gangs for the smallest little mistake like taking a hat or some change. knowon was safe not even children

Jim Crow laws made segregation in the south rise to power. Blacks were treated unfairly and given barly andy rights. They couldn't marry in some states, drink from the same water fountains as whites, eat in the same places, play games together, and have the same jails. Jim Crow is a terrible part of our history that still has effects on the African America race today

jim crow laws sperated blacks and whites in everything like resturants, water fountains, and bathrooms, etc. it made African Americans lives bad because people terrorized them.-joe b

Jim Crow kept blacks ad whites segregated and it gave the south more power over the blacks so their rights were limited. Blacks couldn't protest either because people would always say "seperate but equal." -Jonathan Song

Why was it so important for the south to keep the African Americans seperate?

The whites wanted to stay in power over the blacks and the African Americans would have a disadvantage politically. -Jonathan Song

So that the whites could feel like they had power and where more important than the African American. Also so they could force them to do what they didn't want to do to make them selves feel more important than others. Because, whites had no one else to compare to they decided that just because some one had a different color skin they would put them down and exstreme that one part making it sound like a very bad thing so they could lift themselves up in the glory of pushing a race down.-suzannah

It was very important to the south to try and retain as much of its old glory during slavery as posible. By keeping the blacks septeate and ignorante they could manipulate them much easier.

Whites felt that African Americans were still inferior to them despite everything African Americans were doing right before there eyes.

Why do people judge others based on their apperance or where they live or who they hang out with?

Because they want to feel more important or better than someone else. Because inside we all want to be cool and popular and seem to fit in right. So we look at people and judge them by what they look like or what color there skin is so that we can find better thing in ourselves compared to them. We all are different but that is a good thing, do not compare yourselves to others. Compare how good you are to how good you could be, because that other person is not you they are themselves, different and always will be different.

Because depending on how you look and the company you keep you build an image of yourself however if a group of inparticular people of a single race or religion act a certain way then people start to think everone like them are the same building a bad image and stereotype for that race or religion.

some people just think they are better because they look different-joe b

People think everybody needs to be like them because they think they are better then everyone else. -Jonathan Song

What are some examples of people judging others without ever really knowing them, today?

Some people make fun of other people because they might not be as smart, they dress differently, or they could be overweight. -Jonathan Song

Some people judge others by what food they eat or what religion they are.-suzannah

Some people judge other people on how they dress or where they live.-michael macd

people today judge people on there wieght, sometimes if you are overwieght people may treat you differently.-Dani

many people judge you on looks and brains and athletisism -craig

Today unfortunatly allot of people are judged by how they look this had led to severe issuse like anerexya and eating disorder. Its funny how world hunger is just a big a problem as eating disorder and that comes from exces food.
